Fundraising Staff, Leading Democratic Firms SKDKnickerbocker, and Global Strategy Group Join Campaign to Unseat Keith Rothfus
Pittsburgh – September 5, 2017 – The Beth Tarasi for Congress campaign (PA-12) today announced its first hires: polling, media and mail, finance, and communications.
“I’m running for Congress because I was born and raised here in Western Pennsylvania, and we need someone in Washington who is actually fighting for our people back home. I’m sick of how broken everything is. Wages are stagnant, but the cost of gas and groceries keeps rising. Congressman Rothfus did nothing to reign in corporate excess and close the tax loopholes that shipped 5 million jobs overseas. Congress looks out for themselves and rigs everything for big corporations, instead of working for us,” said Tarasi. “The big banks have made it clear that re-electing Keith Rothfus is their top priority, but I will run a campaign that can win. I’m proud to announce a top-tier group of staff and consultants who will help me succeed.”
Leading up the finance team will be Tara Jerry, currently also a fundraiser for Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, as the campaign as finance director. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Jerry started as a finance assistant on Tom Wolf's gubernatorial primary. She has helped raise millions of dollars for local and statewide candidates in Pittsburgh. Allison Walsh will also join the finance team as a finance assistant. A recent University of Pittsburgh graduate, Walsh previously served as a finance intern on Senator Bob Casey’s re-election campaign.
The renowned firm Global Strategy Group will manage research and polling for Tarasi for Congress. GSG has consistently led Democratic candidates to victory to Republican-leading states, including West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, Iowa Governor Chet Culver, and Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer.
Nick Gourevitch and Angela Kuefler will manage GSG’s work for the Tarasi campaign. Gourevitch is a Partner and Managing Director at GSG, leading the firm’s research division. In this capacity, he served as one of the top pollsters for Priorities USA Action, which supported Hillary Clinton’s 2016 and Obama’s 2012 campaigns. As GSG’s Vice President of Research, Kuefler has worked on several Senate and Congressional campaigns, with a particular focus on the mid-west.
SKDKnickerbocker, an award-winning political media and strategy firm, will lead the campaign’s paid media and direct mail efforts. Previous SKDK clients include President Barack Obama, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (NY), Attorney General Jim Hood (MI) and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell. The firm has successfully elected candidates in competitive Rust Belt regions, including Senator Joe Donnelly of Indiana. SKDK has consulted on Pennsylvania campaigns before, including for candidates Patrick Murphy and Katie McGinty.
Oren Shur and Greg Minoff will lead SKDK’s work on the Tarasi campaign. Shur recently joined SKDK as the firm’s Political Director. Shur has experience leading Democrats to victory in traditionally Republican regions, including managing Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s successful re-election campaign. Last year Shur managed the paid media team for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. As Director of Advertising, Minoff manages the creation, development and execution of the SKDK’s political, corporate, and nonprofit paid media efforts. Prior to joining the firm, he produced advertising and created media plans at Shrum, Devine, and Donilon, for campaigns such as Kerry for President and Bernie Sanders for Senate.
Rounding out the communications team in Pittsburgh is Abigail Gardner, serving as a senior advisor, and Madison Heuston, the campaign’s press assistant. Gardner worked on several campaigns, including Spitzer for Governor, Obama for America, and Maffei for Congress as a communications and advance staffer. She also served on Capitol Hill as the communications director for Congressman Maffei. She owns Scottie Public Affairs, a communications consulting firm based in Pittsburgh.
